JDU STAFF VISIT UNIVERSIDAD TÉCNICA PARTICULAR DE LOJA IN ECUADOR

From 13 to 21 July 2026, dr Bartosz Stuła and dr Norbert Morawiec from the Institute of History at Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa took part in an academic visit to the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja (UTPL) in Ecuador. The mobility was carried out under the Erasmus+ KA171 programme, which supports cooperation between higher education institutions in Erasmus+ programme countries and partner countries outside the European Union.

During their stay, the JDU representatives delivered lectures and workshops for students and academic staff at UTPL on visual history, the use of comics as a historical source, the history of the United States and Latin America, and contemporary approaches to promoting and communicating history to wider audiences.

One of the highlights of the programme was an analysis of Jan Matejko's painting The Battle of Grunwald, presented as an example of how art contributes to the construction of historical memory and national identity. The discussion focused on the significance of historical painting in interpreting the past and on the role of works of art in shaping public historical awareness.

An important part of the visit also included meetings with the University's authorities and representatives of the UTPL Office of International Relations. The discussions centred on strengthening the partnership between the two institutions, expanding opportunities for student and staff mobility, preparing joint research projects, and developing further initiatives under the Erasmus+ programme.

The visit marked another milestone in the growing cooperation between Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa and the Universidad Técnica Particular de Loja, contributing to the internationalisation of both institutions and further strengthening academic ties between Poland and Ecuador.
