31. INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON ORGANIC CHEMISTRY OF SULFUR (ISOCS-31) AS PART OF JDU 55. ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS
During the 29th International Symposium on the Organic Chemistry of Sulfur (ISOCS-29), held in July 2024, the International Advisory Committee of this conference series, which boasts more than sixty years of tradition and brings together researchers working in the broad field of organic sulfur chemistry, awarded the organisation of the 31st edition of the symposium to Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa. At the same time, Professor Józef Drabowicz was invited to serve as Chair of the Organising Committee.
The co-organisers of this year's symposium are the Department of Organic Chemistry of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź and the Department of Organic and Applied Chemistry of the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Łódź. The symposium will take place from 29 June to 3 July 2026 at the Faculty of Science and Technology of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa.
The Honorary Committee of the Symposium includes:
Professor Arkadiusz Chworoś, Director of the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, PAS
Professor Janusz Jurczak, Member of the Polish Academy of Sciences
Professor Janusz Kapuśniak, Rector of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa
Professor Rafał Matera, Rector of the University of Łódź
Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk, Mayor of Czestochowa
Professor Bogusław Przywora, Acting Rector of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa and Vice-Rector for Research and International Cooperation

Wojciech Saługa, Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship
Professor Marek Warzecha, Rector of Czestochowa University of Technology
Marek Wójcik, Governor of the Silesian Voivodeship
The Organising Committee is particularly honoured that Professors Marian Mikołajczyk (Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies, PAS, Łódź), Charles Stirling (University of Sheffield, United Kingdom), and Binne Zwanenburg (Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands) have kindly agreed to serve as Honorary Chairs of the Symposium.
In the more than sixty-year history of ISOCS, this year's meeting is only the third edition to be held in Poland. The symposium was first organised in Poland in 1990 by the Centre of Molecular and Macromolecular Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Łódź in cooperation with the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Łódź. The second Polish edition, ISOCS-25, took place in Czestochowa in June 2012 at the facilities of the former Jan Dlugosz Academy.
The scientific programme of ISOCS-31, held during the year marking the 55th anniversary of Jan Dlugosz University, includes five plenary lectures delivered by:
Manuel Alcarazo (Georg-August University Göttingen, Germany)
Marc Gingras (Aix-Marseille University, CNRS, CINaM, France)
Justin J. Lopchuk (University of South Florida, USA)
Paolo Melchiorre (University of Bologna, Italy)
Kazuo Takimiya (Tohoku University, Japan)
Wolfgang Weigand (Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany)
In addition, the scientific programme features 16 invited lectures, 23 oral communications, and a poster session presenting 43 posters.
The Symposium will officially open on 29 June 2026 at 3:00 pm in the MAGMA Auditorium of the Faculty of Science and Technology of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa. The first scientific session will be dedicated to the memory of Professor Richard Glass, who served for many years as Chair of the International Advisory Committee of ISOCS.
