GERMAN STUDIES STUDENTS VISIT KÖNIGSWINTER AT HAUS SCHLESIEN

From March 1-7, 2026, a group of 20 students of German Philology from Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, under the supervision of prof. Elżbieta Pawlikowska-Asendrych and dr Beata Rusek, took part in the cultural workshops “Schlesische Begegnungen” (“Silesian Encounters”). The workshops were held in Germany, in Königswinter at Haus Schlesien (Silesian House), where lectures and interactive sessions focused on the history, culture, and heritage of Silesia were conducted.

The programme of the stay was very rich and included both an academic component and numerous study visits. Students participated in project-based classes, during which they prepared presentations on the history, culture, and identity of Silesia. They then presented the results of their work during a plenary session, sharing their research findings and reflections in German with the workshop participants.

An integral part of the programme also included visits to important cultural institutions and historically significant sites, such as the Haus der Geschichte in Bonn, as well as Cologne Cathedral and Aachen Cathedral. Participants also visited Düsseldorf and the Parliament of the German-speaking Community in Eupen, Belgium, where they had the opportunity to learn about the functioning of institutions representing German-speaking communities, as well as issues related to regional and linguistic identity in Europe.

Participation in the workshops constituted an important element of philological education, combining language learning with cultural experience and project-based academic work.
