JDU AT 36. INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF COMICS & GAMES IN LODZ

On September 27–28, 2025, the 36th International Festival of Comics and Games took place in Lodz – one of the largest events in Central Europe dedicated to the art of comics and gaming.

During this year’s edition, dr Bartosz Stuła, a researcher at the Institute of History of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa and a member of the Polish Society for the Study of Poland, presented his research on Chicano culture and history in comics.

His talk covered:
1 who the Chicanos are and how their identity was shaped in the territory of today’s United States,
2 the methodology of analysis inspired, among others, by the concepts of Hayden White and historians specialising in comic studies,
3 selected titles reflecting the experiences of the Latino community, such as Love and Rockets, El Gato, Chicanos, Tales from the Barrio, as well as mainstream comic characters like Robbie Reyes (Marvel) and Jaime Reyes (DC).

The presentation offered an excellent opportunity to highlight how researchers from our University disseminate the results of their work, striving to engage a broader audience in their studies.
