Law students participated in "Simulations of court hearings" workshop

On April 3, 2024, fifth-year law students had the opportunity to meet with the prosecutor of the District Prosecutor's Office in Częstochowa, Aleksander Piekacz, who, as part of the "Simulations of court hearings" workshop, presented the preparation for a court case from the prosecutor's perspective. Under the supervision of the Prosecutor, the students analysed the case of Marian Tulip, who was diagnosed with a stab wound to the chest of the back and a bloody knife was secured at the scene. As it was established, Marian Tulipan had been drinking alcohol together with his cohabitant Katarzyna Stokrotka and her former cohabitant Roman Bratek immediately before suffering his injuries. Due to the amount of alcohol consumed, none of the participants was able to reconstruct the entire event. The students were looking for answers to the following questions: whether, who and what charges should be brought, what evidence should be secured, what techniques should be used during interrogation in the course of pre-trial proceedings, what mistakes to avoid when referring a case to court and how to evaluate the evidence. In addition, students had the opportunity to ask questions about the practical aspects of working as a prosecutor. We would like to thank the guest for his time and valuable comments.

"Simulations of court hearings" is a series of workshops conducted for fifth-year Law students by mgr Ewa Drzewiecka, who is a professionally active judge of the District Court in Częstochowa. As part of the course, students prepare and conduct simulations of civil, criminal and family hearings, starting from the preparation of litigation strategies for the assigned role to the issuance of the final ruling with an oral justification of the reasons for the decision. Students have the opportunity to take on various procedural roles and learn about the perspective of working in the professions of counsel, attorney-at-law, judge, prosecutor, court mediator. Classes are conducted in a specially prepared room for simulating court hearings.
