JDU joins “Earth Hour 2024” campaign!

Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa once again joins the "WWF Earth Hour" campaign. This year, the organisers have decided that the event will be carried out on March 23, 2024 (Saturday) at 8:30 p.m. The action of turning off the lights will last for one hour.

Organisers about the event:

WWF Earth Hour is an event that is celebrated all over the world at the end of March. It is mainly associated with the fact that, in a symbolic gesture of concern for the future of our planet, people turn off the lights in their homes for one hour, and institutions turn off the lights in public buildings. Every year, tens of millions of people and several hundred cities around the world take part in it. In Poland, nearly a hundred cities were involved in previous editions, turning off the lighting of public facilities.

This year's edition of WWF's Earth Hour in Poland is dedicated to rivers. A river is not just water flowing in a riverbed. It's something much more valuable. A river is the entire ecosystem that accompanies this water: plants and animals that live in the current of the river and in its valley, as well as those that visit it during migration or spawning. Rivers are also a place for recreation for many of us. They are also our heritage that urgently needs to be protected. Due to many years of transformations, hydrotechnical development and anthropogenic pollution (including salty post-mining water), only 1.1% of Polish rivers are in good condition. Polish rivers are dying and they need our human support. Immediate, decisive steps are needed. Let's do them together!

At 8:30 p.m. on March 23, lights will go out all over Poland in a gesture of solidarity with the idea of protecting our common home. We invite you to join dozens of Polish cities and turn off the lights of university buildings for a symbolic hour. We believe that this year's idea of WWF's Earth Hour will be appreciated by you. Together, we can protect what is most precious to us – our Planet, which is our common home.
