Plans for teaching hospital by JDU and City Hall

The establishment of the University Clinical Hospital in cooperation with the Częstochowa City Hall is planned by Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa. The new facility would be a restructure of the Municipal Hospital in Częstochowa. The project of joint activities aimed at establishing the clinic was presented during a press meeting with the participation of journalists from the Częstochowa media, which took place on January 29, 2024.

"This is the future for both the city and the University, students and medical staff, because it has a chance to raise the level of education in connection with scientific research. Medicine thrives when good education goes hand in hand with science. A hospital moves to a higher level of operation when it becomes a clinical unit as a whole. It is beneficial for everyone, which is why I hope that such a hospital will be established in Częstochowa as soon as possible," explains the Rector of Jan Dlugosz University, Prof. Anna Wypych-Gawrońska. When submitting a proposal to establish the clinic to the University authorities, the Mayor of Częstochowa, Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk, had already held consultations with the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Dariusz Wieczorek, who had responded favourably to the project. He had also expressed his interest in the joint initiative of the city and the University of Częstochowa.”

The University authorities have already held talks at the Ministry regarding the possibility of developing the medical faculty in Częstochowa.

"In cooperation with the University, which has needs in the field of educating students of Collegium Medicum, we want to establish a University Clinical Hospital in Częstochowa," declares the Mayor of Częstochowa, Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk. "This will allow us to develop medical activities in the city, as well as provide better care to our residents who will be able to count on shorter queues to specialist doctors and a wider range of diagnostics thanks to investments in infrastructure and medical equipment. The increased level of referral will provide the hospital with a higher contract with the National Health Fund, as well as the possibility of obtaining grants and other external funds. I am counting on the support of this project by representatives of the scientific and medical communities, parliamentarians and representatives of the government.”

Prof. dr hab. n.med. dr. h.c. multi Aleksander Sieroń, Vice-Rector for Medical & Health Sciences of Jan Dlugosz University, is also positive about the project. “The establishment of the University Teaching Hospital will be beneficial for doctors and all medical staff. There is no medical team and good medicine if there is no cooperation between a doctor, a physiotherapist and a nurse," says Prof. Aleksander Sieroń. "I would like to emphasize that after the establishment of the clinical hospital, we do not intend to replace the staff of the municipal hospital, but to support it through specialists who represent the highest level in Poland.”

It is worth noting that the University has been cooperating with the Municipal Hospital in Częstochowa for some time now. In August last year, an agreement was signed regulating the cooperation between the partners.
