JDU INAUGURATED 2025/2026 ACADEMIC YEAR
The characteristic tap of the rector’s ceremonial mace and the traditional Latin formula “Quod felix, fastum fortunatumque sit” (“May it be for good, happiness, and prosperity”) pronounced by the Acting Rector prof. Bogusław Przywora inaugurated the 55th academic year at Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa. The ceremony, due to the Jubilee and the presence of numerous distinguished guests who came to celebrate with members of the academic community, was held at the Bronislaw Huberman Czestochowa Philharmonic on October 6, 2025.
When asked by Czestochowa journalists what the upcoming academic year would be like, prof. Przywora said in his address:
- Without a doubt, the 2025/2026 academic year will go down in the University’s history not only as a time of celebration - which we will share with the City of Czestochowa and the 200th anniversary of the union of Old and New Czestochowa - but also as a period of intense work devoted to expanding the University and enriching its achievements, said Acting Rector prof. Bogusław Przywora. - We face many challenges, above all scientific ones. This will be a year of evaluation of scientific disciplines as well as accreditation of the medical programme by the Polish Accreditation Committee. There will also be tasks related to expanding our research infrastructure - particularly an important investment: the construction of a multidisciplinary medical simulation centre. I deeply believe that this goal will be achieved in the coming months. We are not forgetting about teaching - we aim to educate with even greater success than before so that students and doctoral candidates can draw more satisfaction from our work. We will strive to act not only for the benefit of Czestochowa but for the entire region, promoting knowledge and skills through various initiatives. Our goal is to reach many communities with an attractive cultural and sports offer. I count on the involvement of the entire academic community in this process.
During the ceremony, first-year students and doctoral candidates were formally matriculated. Guests and members of the academic community also delivered speeches. The event included a ceremony of gratitude and gift presentations to the University’s best students.
Czestochowa’s Mayor, Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk, took the floor. A letter from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defense Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz was read by Secretary of State at the Ministry of National Education Henryk Kiepura. A letter from the Minister of Science and Higher Education, Marcin Kulasek, was also presented. Congratulations to the academic community were extended on stage by prof. Bronisław Sitek (Chairman of the Council of Scientific Excellence) and prof. Zygmunt Lalak (Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Warsaw and Chairman of the Science Committee of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities).
The inaugural lecture for the 2025/2026 academic year, etitled “Dilemmas of Contemporary Medicine”, was delivered by prof. Waldemar Banasiak. The musical setting of the ceremony was provided by members of the JDU Academic Choir conducted by dr Marek Kudra.
Entering the 2025/2026 Academic Year...
In the new 2025/2026 academic year, over 6,600 students began their studies at Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa, across more than 60 fields of study. The JDU Doctoral School educates nearly 70 doctoral students in 13 disciplines.
Over 7,100 applicants applied for full-time and part-time programmes (first-cycle, second-cycle, long-cycle master’s, and engineering studies). As a result of the admissions process, more than 2,550 students were accepted into the first year across all study types. In the previous year, nearly 1,100 graduates received their JDU diplomas.
Among applicants, the most popular programmes were medicine, psychology, physiotherapy, nursing, law, and English philology.
The University continues to expand its educational offer, introducing new programmes to meet expectations. One example is the Nanophysics and Advanced Optics programme (taught in English at the Faculty of Science and Technology). The Faculty of Law and Economics launched a second-cycle programme in Tax Advisory in the 2025/2026 academic year. The unit also continues to develop its postgraduate programmes - including the creation of a two-semester Master of Laws (LL.M.) programme, which allows graduates to broaden their knowledge of international and EU law and earn a valuable qualification on the job market.
In the new academic year, the University employs nearly 820 people, including 550 academic teachers - of whom 56 hold the title of full professor and 107 have the degree of habilitated doctor. Nearly 270 employees are part of the non-academic staff.
It is worth emphasizing that the 55th inauguration serves as a prologue introducing the University’s academic community to the 2026 Jubilee Year. The exact anniversary of the University’s founding will fall on July 30, 2026.
