NAWA Recognition

Recognition Statement – Required for International Students

According to Polish law, every international candidate applying to study in Poland must obtain a Recognition Statement issued by NAWA – the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

This document confirms that your secondary school or university diploma is equivalent to the Polish education system and allows you to continue your studies in Poland.

How to get it:

Documents required

1.     Secondary/High School certificate

You must provide:

 a copy of your Polish Matura certificate, or

 a foreign secondary/high school certificate (a document that allows you to apply for university in the country where it was issued). 

The document must:

have Apostille – if it was issued in a country that is a member of the Hague Convention (5 October 1961) https://www.hcch.net/en/instruments/conventions/status-table/?cid=41

have legalisation – if it was issued in a country that is not a member of the Convention

(The translation must be submitted to the University by the 30 October 2026 for the academic year 2026/2027)

be officially recognised by NAWA – Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange https://syrena.nawa.gov.pl/

2. NAWA Recognition

If your certificate is not automatically recognised in Poland, you must obtain an official Diploma Recognition Statement from NAWA, which confirms that your certificate allows you to start university studies in Poland.

Information from the Director of NAWA is not required for certificates issued in EU, OECD and EFTA countries or in countries with which Poland has concluded agreements on mutual recognition of education, including Ukraine full secondary education certificate and China Gaozhong certificate. 

3.  Electronic photo in .jpg format (The photo must meet passport photo requirements)

Document confirming their English language proficiency at a minimum B2 level according to the list:
Insurance

All foreigners in order to undertake studies must have health insurance. It is recommended that the document presented upon enrolment be valid for at least the first year of studies in Poland and cover treatment costs up to EUR 30 000 for the entire period of validity
