UNIVERSITY & INSTYTUT NIEDZIELA TO EXPLORE PHENOMENON OF PILGRIMAGE (AND MUCH MORE)

A cooperation agreement between Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa and Instytut Niedziela (the publisher of the Catholic weekly 'Niedziela' and the Niedziela.pl news portal) was signed on 2 July 2026.

The agreement was signed by Mariusz Książek, MA, President of the Management Board of Instytut Niedziela, Fr Paweł Rozpiątkowski, Vice-President of the Institute, and Professor Bogusław Przywora, Acting Rector of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa. The meeting was also attended by dr Marek Makowski, Head of the Interdisciplinary Centre for Research on the Phenomenon of Pilgrimage and Religious Tourism, which has been operating at the University since November 2025.

Under the agreement, signed at the University's headquarters, the parties identified several areas of cooperation. These include providing mutual academic support for initiatives undertaken by the University's Interdisciplinary Centre for Research on the Phenomenon of Pilgrimage and Religious Tourism and Instytut Niedziela.

The agreement also provides for expanding and disseminating knowledge about the phenomenon of pilgrimage and raising awareness of its place within the traditions of the world's religions. Particular emphasis will be placed on demonstrating the significance of pilgrimage to students, doctoral researchers, members of the University's academic community, and the wider community of the Czestochowa region, while promoting respect, tolerance, and appreciation of cultural diversity.

Another important area of cooperation involves conducting joint research, educational, publishing, exhibition, and outreach activities together with the staff of Niedziela and other partners of the Centre, including institutions from abroad.

Furthermore, the parties agreed to jointly organise national and international training courses, lectures, exhibitions, conferences, and to participate in tourism fairs related to pilgrimage and religious tourism. They also intend to implement projects commissioned by government institutions, local authorities, and other organisations, as well as undertake collaborative initiatives with a wide range of partners.
