EXHIBITION COMMEMORATING DEPORTATIONS OF POLES TO KAZAKHSTAN
As part of the celebrations marking the 90th anniversary of the deportations of Poles to Kazakhstan, the International Conference entitled Round Table: “The History of the Deportation of Poles in the Akmola Region Dedicated to the 90th Anniversary of the 1936 Deportation and the Memory of Its Victims” took place on 15 May 2026 in Kokshetau.
The event featured an online participation by prof. Beata Urbanowicz and prof. Julia Dziwoki from Jan Dlugosz University, who delivered a lecture and multimedia presentation (in Russian) entitled “We must not forget, yet we cannot return: from the history of Poles in Kazakhstan.” The conference was organised by the Authorities of the Akmola Region, the Association of Poles of the Akmola Region of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University in Astana.
Following the conference, we received a very positive review of our lecture and an invitation for further cooperation.
“I would like to express our immense gratitude on behalf of the entire Polish community - all those who participated in the event in person, as well as those who joined via Zoom and watched the presentation and lecture. Your slides were highly informative, and the photographs and materials have truly significant historical and educational value. If you do not mind, we would be delighted to use them in our future activities. […] We would like to continue strengthening this warm friendship and cooperation between our cities, as well as between Poles in Kazakhstan and Poland, in order to preserve historical memory and pass it on to future generations.”
