OPEN MEETING WITH PROF. HANNA SUCHOCKA, FORMER PRIME MINISTER OF POLAND AND DISTINGUISHED LEGAL SCHOLAR – AS PART “DŁUGOSZ LECTURES”
Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa invites you to a special guest lecture entitled “Ambassador to Three Popes,” held as part of the “Długosz Lectures” series. The guest of the meeting will be Professor Hanna Suchocka, an eminent legal scholar, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland, and Ambassador of Poland.
The event will take place on April 22 at the University’s premises at 2/4 Zbierskiego St., auditorium 1.01. The meeting will be a unique opportunity to gain insight into work at the highest levels of government, reflect on the role of law and democracy, and hear inspiring experiences from a person who helped shape modern Poland. The lecture will also offer a behind-the-scenes look at diplomacy and Poland’s relations with the Vatican.
We especially invite students and secondary school pupils. The meeting may become a space for asking questions, broadening knowledge, and viewing public life from a wider perspective.
Biography:
Hanna Suchocka is one of the most important figures in contemporary Polish history - a lawyer, politician, and diplomat whose knowledge and experience inspire successive generations.
Hanna Suchocka is a graduate of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. She also studied in New York, Strasbourg, and Heidelberg. She has been an academic lecturer, including at Georgetown University in the United States. Since 1990, she has been a member, later Vice-Chair, and Honorary Chair of the Venice Commission “Democracy through Law.” She is a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, as well as a member of the UN group of experts (the “five eminent persons”) on the implementation of the Declaration and Programme of Action of the 2001 World Conference against Racism in Durban. She is also a member of the Club de Madrid and the World Law Foundation in Madrid. In the 2023/2024 academic year, she held the Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski Chair at the University of Gdańsk.
In 1992–1993 Professor Hanna Suchocka served as Prime Minister, in 1997–2000 as Minister of Justice of the Republic of Poland, and from 2001 to 2013 as Ambassador of Poland to the Holy See. She is the author of numerous academic works and articles in the fields of constitutional law, public law, the organisation of the state, as well as human rights and minority rights.
