NEWLY TRAINED TUTORS AT JDU
On February 6, the tutor training programme for 19 academic teachers of Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa was successfully completed. Starting this semester, they will have the opportunity to apply their newly acquired competencies in their teaching practice. This moment was personally significant for all participants, especially for those who had been waiting for some time for the opportunity to take part in such training.
It is worth noting that the recruitment process exceeded the organisers’ expectations. Twice as many applicants as the available places applied for the course. Among them, the majority represented the Faculty of Science & Technology and the Faculty of Law and Economics. The participants included both early-career academics and those with much longer professional experience. They also differed in terms of their stage of academic development, but they shared enthusiasm and a readiness to co-create a tutoring community.
It should also be emphasized that once again the organisation of the tutoring course at Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa was supported by the Instytut Tutoringu Szkolnego (Institute of School Tutoring), which responded in a way that appropriately addressed the needs of the University. The Institute also serves as a platform enabling research on tutoring, including the recommended preventive programme “School tutoring - a dialogue pedagogy programme.”
Tutoring at Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa has been practised for over 10 years. During this time, the development of academic staff has largely been based on the University’s own investment, reflecting its awareness of the challenges faced by contemporary students. It is particularly noteworthy that the University currently has 85 trained tutors among its staff (tutoring.ujd.edu.pl). Importantly, this form of academic work continues to attract strong interest from students. This is reflected in the current enrolment for university-wide elective courses with tutoring, for which nearly 100 students have already registered.
